how it works

After you sign up for a seminar, you will receive a PDF of the reading or readings. You may also receive PDFs of some secondary material; for example, a piece of literary criticism or magazine article which addresses the primary piece of fiction.

That is totally fine. At the beginning of each seminar, there will be a quick overview of the plot included in the mini-lecture.

All seminars begin with a short lecture. This lecture contextualizes the reading, offering critical insight to help begin the conversation.

We will look at the text together, consider specific quotations, and discuss the work more broadly. If the seminar is part of a series, we will also ask how this reading relates to other works we have discussed.

Other than the obvious difference, the content of the seminar will largely be the same. Some in-person seminars may be followed by dinner, where the conversation can keep going.
